Parents are the primary educator of the students; tutors are offering a facilitated classroom environment to discuss homework, provide community and guidance. You don't have to be an expert, just excited to help kids learn and committed to knowing the material to properly facilitate.
Tutors are paid positions; pay is based on enrollment in the class sections. Our intention is for the classroom time to be your main time commitment with minimal prep or hassle outside of that time. For example, a writing tutor would not be reading and correcting papers. Rather, class can be used for peer correction/editing, discussion, new concept introduction, etc. Added benefit - if your student is in your section there is no charge for your student!
Most courses are using a tried and true curriculum with multiple years of cycling to offer variety for the students as they are part of the community year after year. The coop intends to hold a master copy of the teaching curriculum for tutors to use during their time facilitating the class. Families will each purchase their own curriculum for their students to use at home.
Classes meet one time per week on Thursdays; 15 weeks per semester. Two semesters running September - May with appropriate breaks for holidays, etc. More detailed calendar will be released with class enrollment in July.
